Granite City Flyball
Flyball is relatively new to Granite City Agility Club. We have been training and competing in flyball for over a year. We are a growing club expanding from one team in 2008, to two teams and a starter team in 2009.

What is flyball?
Flyball is a team sport for active dogs and their handlers. It is a relay race, with teams of four dogs. The dogs take it in turn to race over four jumps, retrieve a tennis ball from a ‘box’ mechanism and then race back over the four jumps. Once the first dog has crossed the start / finish line the next dog is off! The team that returns all four dogs first wins that race. It is fast and very exciting for the dogs (and handlers).

What breeds of dog can do flyball?
Flyball is open to all dog breeds and crossbreeds. The main criteria are that your dog is over 12 months old, loves tennis balls, is fit enough to jump the hurdles and will recall reliably to the handler. Any size of dog can take part, the smaller the dog the smaller the jump height, however some giant breeds or very tiny toy breeds may not be suitable, as the dog must retrieve a tennis ball safely.

Does my dog need to be obedient to do flyball?
It is important that the handler has basic obedience control over their dog, particularly that the dog will come back to the handler reliably. It is also important that the dog is well socialised and happy around other dogs.

Flyball Training
We train on Thursday evenings over the summer months. During the winter we train on Saturday mornings.  Beginner training is at 10:30am and team training at 11:30am.
